Collection: Ruth Thompson

Ruth Thompson aims to create visually complex pieces, using simple elements. She cites both the Shaker and Bauhaus design influences. Using a mix of traditional and contemporary manufacturing techniques, solid timber and veneers and luxury textiles and other materials, Ruth creates high quality products that provoke a response in the viewer.

After 35 years of teaching high school students wood-based curriculum, focussing on developing their design ethos and high-quality manufacturing skills, Ruth is now dedicated to her own practice. A Churchill fellowship enabled her to complete a furniture design program at The Royal College of Art, London. Ruth now manufactures domestic furniture for gallery sale and on commission in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales.
