Alterfact’s practice is currently focused on the use of 3D printing in clay as a small batch manufacturing process.

This 3d printed porcelain vessel uses the typology of a thread to mimic an unraveling spool. This thread finds its path by chance, and therefore each piece is different, meaning the height may vary slightly. The base is glazed and so can hold some liquid.

Dimensions: 9cm D x 17cm H (height variable)

Materials: White porcelain.

Alterfact is an experimental design studio created by Lucile Sciallano and Ben Landau in 2014. Since graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2013, Lucile and Ben have worked in tandem on various issues in different mediums.

They explore current and future issues and translate them into experiences, installations and objects. They conduct critical research with materials and data, and invite the viewer into their world. Within Alterfact, Ben is more academic and research based, whereas Lucile conducts material research and translates concepts to objects.

Their background is in design, and they have a critical approach to making. This means that they consider the manufacture of ‘stuff’: where it comes from and where it goes; how it is made and how it will be used. They are interested in 3D printing as a small batch manufacturing process, especially as it moves past a gimmick and into a feasible reality.
